So Eric Schlosser of Fast Food Nation fame is here promoting the new film (opens Oct 26, I hear it’s very good). Coincidentally McDonalds are running a ‘don’t worry our food is nice and healthy and the animals we slaughter to make it are killed really nicely and there’s no evil bits added into our food and if you don’t believe us you must be STUPID’ campaign.
Bono is at a U2 concert in Dublin when he asks the audience for some quiet.
Then in the silence, he starts to slowly clap his hands.
Holding the audience in total silence, he says in to the microphone…
“Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies.”
A voice from near the front pierces the silence…
“Well, f***ing stop clapping then”
The Herald is running a story today about some stonkingly cool women in Rotorua who have made a quilt that “will illustrate the “veil of silence”, images of children will symbolise revaluing the child’s status in society and a rainbow will represent a future of wellbeing.”
That’s some radical craftivism! Wish I could see it..
I got this image from the SchNEWS site. Would love to credit the artist but they don’t so, oh well. The whole patterns on theother page if you want it. I’m going to try and get it done before the G20..
