Surely we’re famous now!

The freedoms of the people of New Zealand are being threatened. But never fear, the US is here!

That was a lot more pleasant than an invasion.

Welcome!!

Hi everyone

I have finally finished moving over from the old wordpress.com site.  Well, almost.  I still have a gallery to build, but will get to that soon.

I would love to hear your feedback on this site.  I’ve changed quite a number of things from the old one.  Including creating the links page.  And I’ve started re-writing the Radical Cross Stitch info page.

It’s a work in progress.

So please update your links and change your feeds and hold on for a crazy new ride!

Post Colonial Tie – 70s Style!

We just had the absolutely wonderful pleasure of hosting Green Party of Ontario Canada Leader, Frank de Jong who has been in Australia on the Tools of Sustainability Tour (Aucklanders note you can hear Frank speak tonight!). Most Greens I’ve met have been pretty wonderful people but Frank is just that extra bit special! He definitely kept us entertained and we have had some fantastically stimulating conversations.

So to thank Frank for his wonderful spirit, I made him this wee tie. Well, not too wee, I think the widest bit is about 10 cm!

Frank's New Tie

And up close…

Tie Close Up

The words are as part of the Canadian national anthem, which normally reads “Oh Canada, our home and native land” but it’s been changed to reflect the true state of affairs.

Frank has promised to wear this tie for his maiden speech in parliament if he gets elected in the next provincial election. So all of you readers out there from Ontario, Vote Green!

Beautiful Indeed

A Beautiful Revolution

I win!!!

I’ve got a sewing machine!!  My life is complete*

*almost, it will be when I figure out how to use it.

Hot fresh Mintd

Those cool crazy kids over at Mintd have got some serious expansion plans in the pipeline and they’re offering a whole heap of incentives for more people to get on board.

Firstly, they announced a $5 credit for members who post a Lookbook of purchased products. There is no limit to this promotion, but it’s only once for each product. This is a brilliant idea to get us all into the swing of Lookbooks. For those of you who don’t know, Lookbooks are something quite unique to Mintd. Basically it’s a facility to show off the products you sell and buy. People buy products. They take photos of themselves or their friends with these products, and upload them to the site. Other users can browse these lookbooks, and link to the products the stylist has used. If they subsequently buy the products, the user who submitted the lookbook gets a commission from the price.

If that wasn’t enough they’ve just overhauled their pricing structures. They’ve dropped the commission rates and increased the product numbers. I think this is a brilliant idea as it will definitely encourage more products on the site. And it’s also more user-friendly for those of us who create unique one-off product.

It’s pretty exciting watching the Mintd store expanding at such a tremendous rate. Can’t wait to see what the next evolution looks like!

And of course, don’t forget to check out the Radical Rags Store. I’ve just been on a brilliant wee road trip and sourced some awesome new materials from those wonderful inventions known as country op shops! Stay tuned….

Hey! Clever Pants!

Congratulations if you found this site.

I’m currently migrating from a wordpress.com site and I think I’m about 15 miles away from being ready to say go on this one.

So come back soon.

Or email me at kakarikioteao at gmail dot com and I’ll let you know when it all goes snap crackle poof!

Aotearoa ALWAYS represent!

This is probably about the closest I’ll get to being nationalistic…

I had tears of joy and pride rolling down my cheeks as I watched the Maori TV coverage of the demo in Tamaki Makaurau yesterday in solidarity with the Aboriginal Nations in opposition to John Howard’s Invasion of Aboriginal Land. Mad props to the two arrested!

Awesome action people, and great to see the Te Whanganui e Tara posse are organising and a little birdy told me there is whispers of organisation in Outatahi as well.

There was also a fantastic statement from Metiria calling on international solidarity. And so far these groups have come out in support:

Whakaminenga o Te Paatu
Te Ata Tino Toa
Conscious Collaborations-Global Indigenous network
Mana Wahine
Solidarity Union
Socialist Worker (Aotearoa)
Human Rights Project Aotearoa
Wellington Wildcat Anarchist Collective
Aocafe (Aotearoa Cafe)
Green Party Aotearoa/NZ
Radical Youth (Auckland)
IA ImagineNative Action
Us crew in Australia better get our shit together then eh ;)

Always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land!
