Walk Against Warming

Yesterday we braved the heat (ironically) and went to the Melbourne Walk Against Warming. The coppers reckoned there was about 40,000 people and the organisers reckoned 50,000 so somewhere in between probably.

It took me a while to get in to it cause I felt kinda weird being in such a mainstream thing. And I was pretty grossed out by the number of organisations and companies who saw it as a giant marketing opportunity. And that doesn’t even include the socialists.

I saw a big up yours to the greenwashed mobile company that was there in force, I assume paying their people to be there. Marketing to fairs and festivals where participants expect a bit of profit based promotion is fine. But hijacking a public demonstration on a very serious issue, just to make a buck is f**kin crap. I don’t care how much offsetting you do.

So I couldn’t hang out at the library, it was stiffling. I went down the road and got a good photo position and waited for the march (and the rest of the family) to come to me. Here’s some of my favourite shots.

Finally I have to share a couple of short clips of the John Howard Ladies Auxiliary Fan Club. They’ve been doing a great job of enlightening us all this election campaign and yesterday was no exception. Well done ladies.

Sorry the memory card filled up halfway through the hymn…

It was a fun day all round and I remembered to put sun block on and avoid getting burnt which was nice.

Oh and ten points to the crew in Sydney who turned their backs on Garrett when he spoke.  Nicely done.
