I LOVE the local holiday bazaar at the Senior Center. They have no idea of what a craft goldmine they’re sitting on, and I wish someone would do a book about this kind of stuff. I always make a beeline for the booth at the back, where they have these little cross stitch sayings for only $1.75 each. I was shocked and thrilled last year to see politically subversive sayings in our little suburban enclave – how brave! This year I met their creator and even introduced myself (later I took her a copy of my book, because I think we were separated at birth). Her name is Shirlee, and I can’t wait to see what she does next year! Go Shirlee!!
I just wish the ladies in my craft group were this cool. Nice find Julie!
Yesterday we braved the heat (ironically) and went to the Melbourne Walk Against Warming. The coppers reckoned there was about 40,000 people and the organisers reckoned 50,000 so somewhere in between probably.
It took me a while to get in to it cause I felt kinda weird being in such a mainstream thing. And I was pretty grossed out by the number of organisations and companies who saw it as a giant marketing opportunity. And that doesn’t even include the socialists.

Sometimes I get kind of over all the sticky super sweet cute craft stuff out there. There’s bazillions of craft websites and they all seem to be trying to out-sweet each other. So I don’t really see the need for me to add to it all.
But I made this pattern and I want to share it cause I reckon heaps of people out there will like it. And it’s a really quick one, so perfect for christmas presents if anyone out there is looking for some easy little handmade ideas.
Here’s my owl.
It would make a great tree decoration. Just stitch it on some plain fabric. Cut it out with a matching shape piece of fabric that compliments the colour you used to stitch it with. Sew the pieces together and stuff with a bit of polyfill. Make sure you sew in a small string from the top to hang it with and it’ll look really great on a tree.
And be sure to sign up to the handmade pledge!
OK that’s the end of my cuteness.

If you owned all the land and I owned all the money, how much money would you charge me to live on your land?
I was absolutely astonished to see the NZ Reserve Bank Chairman Arthur Grimes floating the idea of a 1% land tax and a cut of tax rates to 0-20%. This is what we in the Green Party call tax shifting and what Frank de Jong Leader of the Ontario Greens was in Auckland speaking about earlier this year.

Here’s a fun one. I made a wee birthday present for a very very dear friend of ours who happens to work for a certain ornathalogical (is that how you spell it?) type organisation.
I sewed the edges up a wee bit wonky, but it adds to the handmade feel of it (that’s my justification).
I think it’s ludicrously cute.

Five burning social issues, each of which is a category in our competition.
50×70 is the size of the posters we ask the creatives to submit for the benefit of others.
Many are the designers and charities creating awareness of social problems in tomorrow communicators.
One is the exhibition that will present a selection of the best posters and the catalogue.
And whaddya know, some craftivism turns up in the middle of them all. See all the issues and finalists here.
