Birthday gift for the Scumbrigade
I know I promised to update often, a promise that I haven’t really kept… But I blame the fact that it’s summer in Sweden and there’s a tropical heat wave hitting us right now. Too hot to think or manage the blogging…
But I should at least give you my latest creation, aka “the Valerie Solanas project”.
It is of course the first paragraph/sentence from solana’s SCUM manifesto, the raging text about all that’s wrong in society. You could discuss solana’s writing & thoughts for days if you wanted to – was she a complete lunatic who committed a violent crime (she shot andy warhol!) & promoted a hateful feminist philosophy? Or was she a brilliant writer/artist that got abused & mistreated by everyone & everything in her life? I’m too tired do get into that right now (maybe i’ll edit this later) but i think that, if you’re swedish, you should pick up a copy of Sara Stridsberg’s book Drömfakulteten. iI’s a beautiful odyssey into the mind of valerie, from the authors own fantasies & conception of her. Just read it.

Do you have a pattern for the border and guns that you would be willing to share? I would love to use them in my current project!!
Morgan: I think the border was something I made up by using different patterns from a DMC pattern book. The guns are made from a pic I found on the internetz & turned into a pattern. Think it’s still on my old PC that crashed & burned this summer, but I’ll try & rescue it for you.

I would really appreciate the pattern if you could find it! I’m trying to find a photo on the internet that I can make into a pattern using the free KG-Chart software that I downloaded but haven’t had any luck so far.
I’m still really new to cross stitch and am looking to tackle a bigger piece. I’ve basically been trying to use the traditional work that’s out there but with my own spin on it.

I loooove this pattern, as well, and I’m a fan of the manifesto. Do you mind sending me the gun pattern, as well? You should totally create a complete pattern to sell. I know I would buy it!
dear johanna, we are a small 100% independent german publishing house. at the moment, we are putting together an anthology of feminist manifestos, including texts from olympe de gouges, sojourner truth, valentine de saint-point and valerie solanas.

i LOVE this, i was googling ‘scum manifesto tattoos’, as i’m planning on getting the intro tattooed on my thigh. i also happen to love cross stitch, so this may very well end up on my body. any way i could get a pattern for it? a new project would rule right now.
Cross stitch tattoos are really cool, I’ve been thinking about getting one myself.
