hey nina

I would still say find an old linen, that's what the grrls used to stitch on back in the day, read = 1800s. It doesn't look as straight but that makes it more authentic if you ask me. Or you could go real old school and use some sacking. But that would probably kill you.

Good luck and make sure you send us some pics!!

oh ya, you probably have loads of local shops and internet places who sell your work, but I just wanted to tell you that here in Oakland there is a store in the heart of the very awesome and not pretentious art 'area' called Rock Paper Scissors, lovingly known as RPS that would probably be very excited about your work. They have a gallery and sell lots of different kinds of great textile work. Small, but loving and does a good business..

fucking love your soul. can u help answer this?: doing 'subversive' (kind of hate that word) biographical embroidery thing- want it to look old, like 1700's. Can you recommend a good fabric, maybe a way to treat it to give it that f-ed up old look? seems the darker materials like linens are too thick for some of the finer stitches.
I agree- fuck fine art. so much more can be said in other ways...
peace from Oakland California
