Hoopla Radical Craft Zine

Hoopla – the world’s most revolutionary craft zine.

Hoopla began as a zine made for the Craft and Storytelling workshop at the 2007 TiNA Festival in Newcastle. And has now turned into a biannual publication, showcasing the world of radical craft and creative action. Each issue features theory and action, inspiration and ideas.

Hoopla is an created by a collective of creative people. If you want to get involved or make a submission for a future issue or get on the mailing list for future issues, get in touch.

A review! (by someone who hasn’t read it…)
“This is like an anarcho feminist revolution zine about crafts and
being radical and such like. I’m losing energy at this point but
without reading it, it looks pretty good. It makes cross stiching
cool.” – Sticky Institute.

HOOPLA – Issue #3
‘Interesting’ is the first word that comes to mind when I read this zine. It’s about craft and feminism, two areas of the world that I don’t really participate in so reading this zine was an educational experience. And one that wasn’t bad at all. Hoopla starts off with a quite interesting article about quilt making (did you know in Africa, men used to be the main textile producers as opposed to women) and includes other craft related items like a mosaic project outside a treatment facility, a personal tale about learning about suffrage and some pictures of Free Tibet cross stitches. The only thing that I couldn’t handle was the extremely open dialogue about menstruation. It was a little too much to read a comic that depicted women painting and gardening with their menstrual fluid. But that’s just because this zine was about issues and ideas that I had absolutely no idea about, so thanks Hoopla, you were definitely interesting.
