Raaarrr!

Johanna at Cross Yr Stitches (our 2nd favourite cross stitch blog!) has just finished this super cool xstitch

the text is in portuguese & comes from the brazilian hardcore/trash band infect’s song cansadas the ódio. in english it would translate to something like “tired of hate & oppression, it seems like the anger is the solution”.

I think it looks great. The text goes really well with the image.

The woman symbol is a pattern I put up on the DiY page. It is a pretty old image. I’m not sure where it’s originally from, I think it came from the union movement somewhere along the way. I’d love it if someone could fill me in on that.. And I’d been wanting to stitch some text to go with it for a while, I was pondering a couple of Emma Goldman quotes. So nice to see someone else do it!

Johanna’s gonna stick it on a tote bag she made. I’ll post a pic up if she puts one online. I love the idea of making cross stitches for bags. It makes them so much more visible and useful!

I just finished a big long piece (pics soon) and it really does need to be framed and on the wall, it’s part of the joke. But I’ve just started working on a wearable project. It makes me happy when I’m stitching to think someone will be walking round with it on at some point. Although it won’t be me ’cause it’s too small. Oh well, maybe next time.

Bookmark Pattern

For those of you that saw my feminist bookmark and thought ‘goodness, I wish I could have one like that!’, you’re in luck!

I have just put the pattern up on etsy for sale as a pdf file. I’ll be putting it together as a kit soon too.

This bookmark has been especially designed for those of us who believe the gender revolution should be a beautiful revolution.

As feminists it is important that we remember the handmade histories of our mothers and grandmothers. This pattern is perfect for conscious raising stitch and bitch meetings. Or, just kicking back on a rainy Sunday afternoon listening to your favourite feminist radio show.

Feminist Bookmark

International Women’s Day is always a special day for me because I like to spend the day reviewing the last year of my own life through a feminist lens. I also like to spend time remembering all of the women who have fought and died for the freedoms I now enjoy.

This year I spent a good part of the day with my feet up in my design hub (craft room) listening to an awesome interview with Kathy from whipup.net on the Craft Sanity podcast – very inspirational, you should definitely subscribe. And while I got an earful of a wonferfully inspiring conversation I did some stitching.

And made this.

This is for a kit that I’m putting together which will be available for you to buy soon.

In the meantime, or if you have no interest in learning how to cross stitch (pfft) or if you have too many other projects on the go and you really wish you could have this one; this one is for sale. And it comes with a free copy of Hoop-La for a bit of inspiration.

You can buy it here.

On another note, I think I’m becoming obsessed with the language of spam. Is there any linguists out there studying it? Today I got some spam through this site which complimented me on such a beautiful domain name. I was truly touched.
