After six years in captivity, Ingrid Betancourt has finally been released by FARC (inadvertently) and has been returned to her family.

I join with all the other Greens around the world who have been hoping and praying for Ingrid over all these years to say ‘Welcome home!’

Ingrid was made honorary President at the Global Greens Conference in Sao Paulo a couple of months ago and won’t it be wonderful to have her back speaking at the next conference!

I highly recommend everyone read her book ‘Til Death Do Us Part; My Struggle To Reclaim Colombia’. It is one of the most inspirational books I have ever read. And certainly a good grounder if you think politicians in your country are corrupt! This book was written by Ingrid before she was taken captive but was only published after her captivity. And it is full of inspiration. A little known fact is that Ingrid was the pioneer of using condoms as a campaign tool for something other than safe sex. A campaign tool that Young Greens in particular, have been utilising ever since!

Welcome home Ingrid! Now have a holiday!
