Submissions are now open for the 4th issue of Hoopla – the world’s most revolutionary craft zine.

The theme for Issue #4 is MAKEing Love. As always the theme is open to interpretation (you can even ignore it completely) but is based around the idea that craft action is positivist action. It’s about creating the world we want to see as opposed to protesting against the way things are.

Submissions welcome in the form of pictures, patterns and writing or a combination of the three. Also looking for volunteers for proof reading, page layouts and cover design.

Submission deadline March 31. Email here.

Also Hoopla is in need of a promotional flyer. If you’re partial to a bit of design and want to win a copy of all the issues of Hoopla we’re looking for an A5 flyer design. The flyer must contain the following information:

A wee bit beyond deadline but Hoopla #3: Radical Inspiration is now available for sale.  It’s been a bit of a mission and my plan to get it out in October was a bit overshot.  But finishing a project before the end of the year is always satisfying!

Recently we’ve been working to spread the hoopla message and I sent a heads-up about Issue #3 to the Grrrl Zine Network and they responded with interview questions! If you have something that you want to contribute that doesn’t fit in with the theme, get in touch and run it by us. It might still be suitable or it might be just perfect for the next issue!

For those of you who still haven’t got the hang of buying things through the interwebby, I’ve started putting hoopla in some shops and libraries.

As of yesterday hoopla #1 & #2 are on the shelves at Sticky in the Flinders Subway in Melbourne.

There’s a few copies on their way to the Freedom Shop in Wellington and Black Star Books in Dunedin and the Huon Valley Environment Centre in Tasmania.

There’s also copies winging their way to the Papercut Zine Library and the Loophole Zine Library.

And there’s copies heading to the Marching Stars Zine Distro.

Plus, of course, all the contributors should be receiving their copies in the post soon!

If you know any other zine distro/info shop/library or whatever that might be interested in having some copies, get in touch. Or if you just want a copy yourself, check the Radical Rags etsy store. And I’m interested in trading if you’ve got your own zine, or make patches, or badges or crafty stuff of any kind.

This year I spent a good part of the day with my feet up in my design hub (craft room) listening to an awesome interview with Kathy from whipup.net on the Craft Sanity podcast – very inspirational, you should definitely subscribe. And while I got an earful of a wonferfully inspiring conversation I did some stitching.

So presenting Hoop-La! The zine for radical cross stitch and craftivism.

Issue 1 is full of pictures of finished work and rants by various people. I used photocopied fabric as the backgrounds for the different pages and it looks real pretty.

You can pick up yourself a copy here. Let me know if you want a copy to copy for a zine store or library and I can send you an un-stapled version.

This is also a call out for Issue 2. So if you have a little rant written about craft and politics or you’ve got some finished stuff that needs to be seen, please send it in by March 31.
