I’m super pleased to present the latest RCS collaboration, this time I got together with Katherine Beefheart who designs some super awesome pieces.  I said ‘go on, make one for our shop!’ and awesomely, she said ‘for sure!’.  So everyone, say Hi Katherine!

Helloooo,

I’m Katherine Beefheart and this is my design.  I’ve been embroidering for what feels like forever, mainly for my own pleasure.  But in the last few months I have been encouraged to put my stitchings out there which meant taking it a lot more seriously and consequently producing some huge pieces which have taken me months to complete.  My inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere….overheard conversations, music lyrics, my beautiful family and friends, literature and my constantly twittering inner monologue.  To me, there is an enormous sense of creating when many hours, days, weeks and sometimes even months go into a piece along with a sizeable chunk of my heart and soul.  It’s ridiculously therapeutic for me which relates to this particular pattern.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it

I’ve been promising new patterns for a while and here’s the first of a new bunch.

This design is getting back to some old school roots with a lovely redwork antique border.  And a quote from one f my favourite films of all time, The Edukators.  This quote was sprayed on a wall in the film and I love it!

And I have a guest stitcher for this pattern, the adorably ace Curegreed who you may also know from her guest blogging at Mr X Stitch about her studies at the Royal School of Needlework (for which I am INSANELY jealous).  We met last year at a Craft Cartel crafternoon when she was visiting these fair shores for a wedding.  And I’m so excited to be doing more work together.

This pattern was designed by me and has been stitched by the lovely Cross Stitch Ninja. And you wouldn’t believe how quickly she did it, I am so in awe!

This pattern has been a labour of love and is a tribute to some of the roots of creative resistance. The Bread and Roses poem and song was penned in 1911 and is most commonly associated with the women of the Lawrence Massachusetts textile strike of 1912.

This strike was a defining moment in Union history as it saw a very large working population of mostly women and immigrant workers organising themselves for better pay and conditions.

The pattern contains more about the story of the Lawrence Strike.

As previously promised, I was gonna put the cross stitch kits up for sale as e-patterns. So you kids who already have all your own bits and bobs and especially those of you conscious of shipping stuff all over the planet, can now rest easy. I’ve got the Patriarchy Heart Pattern and the If It’s Yellow Pattern in the Radical Rags etsy store as e-patterns to go with the Feminist Bookmark Pattern that was already there.

I’ve got a couple of new patterns on the way as well so stay tuned.

I’m also in the process of redesigning the kits. I’ve been investigating more sustainable ways of packaging the kits up. So I should be printing up new ones in the next couple of months and they will be super sustainable!

So I’m working on a few more designs. I’m also working on the packaging to make sure it’s a whole lot more sustainable. Luckily I went to the Sustainable Living Festival in the weekend and met Calan from PrintTogether. I got to talk through the entire product with him and he’s going to help me not have to deal with evil printing and packaging companies ever again yay!

So stay tuned, there’ll be new kits soon!

Anyway, the point of this post is to share with you a few free bits that I made along the way. I decided it was time I added a few new fonts to the DIY page and I’ve also put together a few symbols that I’d scored through a free symbol font.

So this first one is called Adventure Subtitles. It’s in upper and lower case. Click on the sample to get the full alphabet as a cross stitch pattern.

This next one is called Copasetic
