All aboard!

Seriously folks, if there’s a good cause to craft for then this is surely one of them. Goods 4 Girls is an amazing group that assists young African women in sustainably managing their periods in order to keep them in school. And they do a fantastic job!

10 points to the lovely Ms Cate for coordinating this! The bonus is learning to make your own pads if you haven’t before. So you can be inspired to go home and make some for you too!

I’m gutted that I’ll miss the first one, but definitely on board for session two.

Pass it on!

My darling bought himself some cheap gloves for keeping his hands warm on the chilly ride to and from work. And being cheap gloves, they started to come apart.

My darling bought himself some cheap gloves for keeping his hands warm on the chilly ride to and from work. And being cheap gloves, they started to come apart. I thought I could darn them up but by the time I got to them, they’d unravelled quite badly.

Now I don’t really know what I’m doing when it comes to fixing the finger tip of a glove which has a big hole in it. So I just made it up as I went along. I folded a small piece of calico in half and stuck it in the glove. The I did some kind of random stitch around the hole, ensuring I tied down all the ravely bits. Then I turned it inside out and did the same thing around the edge of the calico. And I had a bit of thread left, so I added a bit of sweetness.

This is an ultimate hack job, but one I think turned out really well!

I loved Kakariki’s post about the knitted poo a while ago, and immediately knew that it would be perfect for one of my friends. She has this amazing bizarre sense of humor and is one of very, very few I know who would use the phrase “my prettiest vomit” as if it’s a perfectly everyday thing to say. (The vomit was blueberry pie in snow, imagine the colour combinations…)

So she got these for her birthday this weekend:

She got one big poo, and one small. The big poo is filled with wheat grains, so if it gets a few minutes in the microwave it’ll be all nice and warm. The small one is stuffed with lavender, perfect for the linen cupboard!

And they’re both so easy to make, basically made of cylinders, with just a little shaping in the ends to get that special poo-feeling.
