Submissions are now open for the 4th issue of Hoopla – the world’s most revolutionary craft zine.

The theme for Issue #4 is MAKEing Love. As always the theme is open to interpretation (you can even ignore it completely) but is based around the idea that craft action is positivist action. It’s about creating the world we want to see as opposed to protesting against the way things are.

Submissions welcome in the form of pictures, patterns and writing or a combination of the three. Also looking for volunteers for proof reading, page layouts and cover design.

Submission deadline March 31. Email here.

Also Hoopla is in need of a promotional flyer. If you’re partial to a bit of design and want to win a copy of all the issues of Hoopla we’re looking for an A5 flyer design. The flyer must contain the following information:

Hoopla: a craft zine for revolutionaries
-patterns
-pictures
-inspiration
-fun

http://radicalcrossstitch.com/hoopla-radical-craft-zine

Other than that it’s totally over to you. The winner will be chosen by the hoopla collective.

Entry deadline March 31.

Look forward to seeing all your entries and submissions!! And a special big thanks to all those who have already sent some in. This is looking like a bumper issue!

A wee bit beyond deadline but Hoopla #3: Radical Inspiration is now available for sale. It's been a bit of a mission and my plan to get it out in October was a bit overshot. But finishing a project before the end of the year is always satisfying!

Have you seen the new hoopla page? Yay! Thought it was time to have a one stop shop for all things hoopla.

Recently we’ve been working to spread the hoopla message and I sent a heads-up about Issue #3 to the Grrrl Zine Network and they responded with interview questions! It was quite an interesting interview so I urge you to check it out here. And check out the rest of the website while you’re there, there’s some super inspiring stuff!

Don’t forget submissions for Issue #3 close on the 19th of September so get writing/crafting/picture snapping!

For those of you who still haven’t got the hang of buying things through the interwebby, I’ve started putting hoopla in some shops and libraries.

As of yesterday hoopla #1 & #2 are on the shelves at Sticky in the Flinders Subway in Melbourne.

There’s a few copies on their way to the Freedom Shop in Wellington and Black Star Books in Dunedin and the Huon Valley Environment Centre in Tasmania.

There’s also copies winging their way to the Papercut Zine Library and the Loophole Zine Library.

And there’s copies heading to the Marching Stars Zine Distro.

Plus, of course, all the contributors should be receiving their copies in the post soon!

If you know any other zine distro/info shop/library or whatever that might be interested in having some copies, get in touch. Or if you just want a copy yourself, check the Radical Rags etsy store. And I’m interested in trading if you’ve got your own zine, or make patches, or badges or crafty stuff of any kind.

This zine started as a project for a Women’s Studies class and has turned into a great tool for those new to crafting and selling. It contains sections on ideas for crafts, books to check out, internet resources for selling and advertising, how to sell at stores, and if you live in Portland, OR, a guide to crafty supply stores around town.

Table of Contents:
1)Why DIY?
2)What should I make?
3)Where can I get supplies (PDX)
4)How to sell online
5)How to sell in stores
6)Craft fairs in PDX
7)Advertising
8)Web resources
9)Resources in print

***From now until March 15, 100% of the proceeds of this zine will be donated toward the printing of the Winter 2008 Portland State University Girl Power Zine. We are conducting 40 hours of rap sessions with teen girls ages 11-19 throughout the community and will be compiling their words into a zine about teen girl life.***

It comes from legendary Etsy seller harveyandeileen who make the wonderful uterus undies.

And it’s for a good cause so you should buy a copy today!

I’m keen to get some more craft zines so if you know of any out there let me know. And don’t forget I’m collecting articles for the next Hoop-La so if you’ve got something written or pictures of your radical craft send it through!

Finally I got round to putting this one online. I put it together in September…

So presenting Hoop-La! The zine for radical cross stitch and craftivism.

Issue 1 is full of pictures of finished work and rants by various people. I used photocopied fabric as the backgrounds for the different pages and it looks real pretty.

You can pick up yourself a copy here. Let me know if you want a copy to copy for a zine store or library and I can send you an un-stapled version.

This is also a call out for Issue 2. So if you have a little rant written about craft and politics or you’ve got some finished stuff that needs to be seen, please send it in by March 31.

Issue 2 is also going to feature an exclusive pattern!
